How is Laka different from normal bike insurance?

Laka works on a collective model. Instead of paying a fixed premium up front, members share the cost of the month's claims, capped at a maximum you agree in advance. In a quiet month you pay less than the cap. You never pay more than it.

Does it cover e-bikes?

Yes. Electric bikes are covered, which matters in London where an e-bike is often worth more than the car it is parked next to. That includes every e-bike we sell.

Am I covered if my bike is stolen from outside the shop or a cafe?

Yes, provided it was locked to an immovable object with a lock that meets the requirements in your policy. Read the lock conditions carefully when you sign up, as that is the single most common reason a theft claim fails.

Is there an excess?

What about my home insurance? Am I not already covered?

Sometimes, but usually with a low single item limit, an excess, an away from home exclusion and no cover for racing or accidental damage.
