Muc-Off at Aztecs Bikes

Cleaner, lube and sealant, with advice from the people who use it

Muc-Off is the pink stuff in every workshop, and there is a reason it is there. Bike cleaner, drivetrain degreaser, wet and dry chain lube, ceramic coatings, tubeless sealant and the bike cleaning kits that bundle it all together. Most of what keeps a bike quiet and running properly is somewhere in this range.

More about Muc-Off

Which chain lube do I need? Wet lube through a British winter, dry lube in July. That covers most riders, but the drivetrain matters too, and a waxed chain wants something different again. Ask us rather than guessing, we will tell you straight instead of pointing at the most expensive bottle.

Aztecs Bikes is an award-winning independent bike shop in Bow, East London. Order online for delivery or Click & Collect, or come in and pick our mechanics' brains while you are here.

Buying it as a bundle is usually cheaper and always tidier, so start with the bike cleaning kits. Sealant and tubeless kit sits with tyres and wheels, and the rest of the workshop consumables are in tools and maintenance. If you would rather hand the bike over, book a service.

Frequently asked questions

Wet lube or dry lube?

Wet lube through a British winter, dry lube in July. Wet lube stays put in the rain but attracts grit, so it needs wiping down; dry lube keeps the chain cleaner but washes off in a downpour. A waxed chain wants something different again, so tell us what you are running rather than guessing.

Can I use Muc-Off cleaner on an electric bike?

Use the eBike specific products rather than a general degreaser. They are formulated to be safe around motor seals and electrical contacts, which strong degreasers are not. Keep water away from the battery contacts and the motor housing, and never point a pressure washer at either.

Is jet washing my bike a bad idea?

Yes, if you aim it at the bearings. High pressure water forces grease out of hubs, bottom brackets and headsets and pushes grit in behind it, which is how a cheap clean turns into an expensive service. A bucket, a brush and five minutes does a better job.

Not sure which one is right for you?

Tell us how far you ride, where you park it and what you need to carry, and we will point you at the right model. We build and safety check every bike in our workshop in Bow before it leaves.
