Folding Bikes in East London

For trains, small flats and hallways with no room for a full size bike

Folding bikes for people whose journey does not end at the bike rack: a train leg, a shared hallway, an office with nowhere to lock up. Every one is built and safety checked in our workshop in Bow.

More about Folding Bikes

Folding or full size? If you can store and lock a full size bike at both ends of the journey, a hybrid will ride better for the money. A folder earns its place when the fold is part of the journey, and what matters then is the folded size, the weight, and how quickly it folds with cold hands.

The Hygge Virum is the one to look at if you want electric assistance and still need to carry it: 18kg, and it folds down to fit a hallway or a train luggage rack. We also stock non assisted folders for riders who want the lightest possible carry.

Folding bikes take more abuse at the hinges than a normal frame, so they need servicing more often rather than less. We look after them in our workshop, and the whole range is eligible for the Cycle to Work scheme.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take a folding bike on the Tube and trains?

Yes. Folded bikes are allowed on every Transport for London service at any time, including the Tube and the DLR at peak, and on most national rail operators without a reservation. Full size bikes are restricted at peak on almost all of them, which is the main reason people buy a folder in the first place.

How heavy is a folding e-bike?

Lighter than most people expect. The Hygge Virum is 18kg, which you can carry up a flight of stairs or lift onto a train rack without much drama. Fat tyre and full suspension folders weigh considerably more, so if carrying is part of the journey, say so before you choose.

Do folding bikes need more servicing?

Yes. The hinges and the folding clamps take loads a normal frame never sees, and they are the parts that need checking rather than the drivetrain. We check hinge play and clamp tension at every service, and it takes minutes when it is caught early.

Are folding bikes eligible for Cycle to Work?

Yes, the whole range including the electric models. Depending on your tax band you save roughly 28 to 42 percent, and folders are one of the most popular choices on the scheme because they solve the storage problem at both ends of the journey.

Not sure which one is right for you?

Tell us how far you ride, where you park it and what you need to carry, and we will point you at the right model. We build and safety check every bike in our workshop in Bow before it leaves.
