Bike MOT questions
Is a bike MOT a legal requirement?
No. Unlike cars, bikes in the UK have no legal MOT. It is a common name for a safety check, and it is worth doing every six months if you ride regularly, or before a new season.
What do you check?
Brakes, gears, chain and drivetrain, wheels and tyres, frame and forks, headset, bottom bracket and the tightness of the bolts that matter. On Tenways and Hygge e-bikes, the only e-bike brands we work on for now, we also check the display, connections and battery mounting. See our e-bike repair page for more.
Is it really free?
Yes, with no obligation. You get the report and a quote. If you want the work done, we book it in. If not, you take the bike home.
What if the bike needs a full service?
Our Giro service at £60 is a full safety service, with gears and brakes adjusted. La Vuelta at £120 adds a drivetrain strip and new cables. Prices are labour only, with parts quoted separately. Everything is on our bike repair page.
Where are you?
4 Corsican Square, Bow E3 3XS, one minute from Devons Road DLR, close to Canary Wharf and Stratford. We open at 9am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, until 7pm Monday to Wednesday and 6pm on Friday and Saturday. Sunday is 11am to 4pm, and we are closed on Thursday.
Can I supply my own parts for a service or repair?
Yes, but a 10% surcharge on labour applies. We cannot guarantee the compatibility or quality of customer-supplied parts, or cover their defects or failures. Any warranty claim stays between you and the original retailer or manufacturer. We reserve the right to refuse unsuitable parts, and any extra labour they cause is chargeable. The full terms are in the customer-supplied parts policy on our bike repair page.
