Tenways CGO600 vs CGO800S: Which Commuter E-Bike Is Right for You?

The CGO600 Pro and the CGO800S are the two Tenways we get asked about most for London commuting. On paper they look almost identical. Same motor, same belt drive, less than fifty pounds between them. But they are built for two very different riders, and choosing the wrong one is the difference between loving your commute and quietly regretting it. We build both in our Bow workshop, so here is how we actually help people decide.

🚲 The Short Version

If you want light and sporty, go for the CGO600 Pro. If you want comfortable and upright with more range, go for the CGO800S. That covers most people. If you want the detail behind that call, read on.

⚙️ What the Two Bikes Share

Before the differences, it helps to know how much these two have in common, because it narrows the decision down to a few things that genuinely matter.

  • The same motor: Both run the Mivice M070 rear hub motor with 40 Nm of torque. Assistance feels identical on both.
  • The same belt drive: Both use a single-speed Gates carbon belt. No chain to oil, no derailleur to adjust, very little to go wrong. You just ride.
  • The same torque sensor: Both measure how hard you are pedalling and match the assistance to your effort. It feels like a normal bike with a tailwind, not a scooter.
  • The same legal spec: Both are capped at 25 km/h and 250 W in line with UK EAPC rules, so no licence, tax or insurance needed.
  • Almost the same price: £1,599 for the CGO600 Pro, £1,649 for the CGO800S. Fifty pounds apart, so price is not the deciding factor.

🔍 Where They Actually Differ

Riding position

The CGO600 Pro is a sporty bike. Diamond frame, a slight forward lean, the feel of a quick road bike with a bit of help. The CGO800S is an upright city cruiser. Dutch-style step-through frame, a straight back, eyes-up in traffic. Neither is better. It comes down to how you like to sit on a bike.

Range

The CGO800S carries a bigger 460 Wh battery against the CGO600 Pro's 360 Wh. In real London riding expect roughly 50 to 70 km from the 800S, and noticeably less from the 600 Pro, depending on assistance level, hills and your weight. If your commute is long, or you simply hate charging often, the 800S has the edge here.

Assistance modes

The CGO800S gives you five levels of pedal assistance against the CGO600 Pro's three. More steps means finer control over how hard you work and how quickly the battery drains. Three levels is plenty for most commutes, but if you like to fine-tune your effort, the 800S has the edge.

Weight and storage

The CGO600 Pro is 16 kg. The CGO800S is 19 kg. Three kilos does not sound like much until you are carrying it up to a third-floor flat with no lift. If you store your bike upstairs, or lift it onto anything, the lighter 600 Pro wins. If it lives at ground level, this matters far less.

Fit and sizing

The CGO600 Pro comes in two frame sizes, M and L, and its handlebars can be adjusted, so it is easier to dial in a precise fit across a range of heights. The CGO800S comes in one frame size. The step-through design suits most riders comfortably, but you have less adjustment to play with, which is worth knowing if you are at the taller or shorter end. We will check your fit before you collect either bike.

What comes fitted

The CGO800S is a full city bike out of the box: mudguards, a rear rack, integrated lights and a front suspension fork for kerbs and potholes. The CGO600 Pro is more stripped back and minimal. You can add accessories, but if you want everything ready on day one, the 800S saves you buying the extras.

Getting on and off

The CGO800S step-through frame is genuinely easier to mount, which matters if you ride in work clothes, a skirt or a dress, carry shopping, or just prefer not to swing a leg over a crossbar. The CGO600 Pro has a traditional crossbar.

🧭 So, Which One Should You Buy?

Choose the CGO600 Pro if

  • Your route is fairly flat and you want a light, quick, sporty feel.
  • You store your bike upstairs or need to lift it regularly.
  • You prefer a leaned-forward, road-bike position.
  • You want a choice of two frame sizes and adjustable bars for a precise fit.
  • You are happy to add mudguards or a rack later if you decide you want them.

Choose the CGO800S if

  • You want comfort and an upright, eyes-up riding position.
  • You want the longer range of the two for a bigger commute.
  • You like fine control, with five levels of assistance to choose from.
  • You ride in work clothes and want easy step-through mounting.
  • You want mudguards, rack, lights and suspension included from the start.

⛰️ One Honest Caveat: Hills

Both of these are single-speed with a 40 Nm motor. For most of London that is fine. For genuinely steep, regular climbs they will slow you down. If your commute involves real hills, look at the geared Plus versions instead. The CGO600 Plus keeps the sporty feel and adds 8-speed Shimano gears, and the CGO800 Plus does the same for the step-through. We compare the full range in our Tenways E-Bike Buyer's Guide.

💷 Both Work on Cycle to Work

Both bikes are eligible for Cycle to Work schemes, with savings of up to around 42% depending on your tax band. We accept all the major providers. Message us and we will talk you through how to apply.

❓ Quick FAQ

Is the CGO600 Pro or CGO800S better for hills?

Neither is ideal for steep hills, as both are single-speed. For hilly commutes look at the geared CGO600 Plus or CGO800 Plus instead.

Which of the two has the longest range?

The CGO800S, thanks to its larger 460 Wh battery. Expect roughly 50 to 70 km in real London conditions, and less from the CGO600 Pro's 360 Wh battery.

Which sizes do they come in?

The CGO600 Pro comes in two frame sizes, M and L, with adjustable handlebars to fine-tune the fit. The CGO800S comes in a single frame size suited to most riders. We check your fit before collection either way.

Can I buy either on Cycle to Work?

Yes. Both are eligible through the major Cycle to Work providers, with savings of up to around 42% depending on your tax band.
