HOW IT WORKS
Every wheel build starts with a conversation. We help you choose the right hubs, rims and spokes for your riding, then we lace, tension and true your wheels by hand in our East London workshop. You stay informed at every step, and we only start work once you have approved the spec and the quote.
- How long does a wheel build take?We aim to complete booked wheel builds within 5 working days from the moment all components are in stock. Rush builds may be possible, just ask.
- Can you build a single wheel, or only pairs?Yes, we build single wheels. Prices are quoted per wheel.
- Can I supply my own hubs, rims, or spokes?Absolutely. Our build labour stays the same. We recommend you do not supply your own spokes, as our mechanics measure each build to calculate the exact spoke length required.
- Do you offer a warranty on your builds?Yes. We include a free re-tension and truing at 500km, and we stand behind every wheel we build. If anything is not right with the build itself, bring it back and we'll fix it.
- What's the difference between a wheel build and a wheel rebuild?A wheel build is a new wheel from scratch (new hub, rim, spokes). A rebuild reuses one or more existing components, usually a hub or rim that is still in good condition.
- Do you build tubeless-ready wheels?Yes. Tubeless tape and valve fitting is included in our Performance and Carbon Build packages, and available as an add-on for Classic Builds.
- Can you build carbon wheels?Yes, our Carbon Build package is specifically designed for carbon rims. We use a tensioning protocol matched to the rim manufacturer's specifications.
- What should I bring when I drop off?If you have specific components or a wheel for rebuild, bring them with you. If you're starting from scratch, just bring yourself, and we'll guide you through the options.
- Can you build dynamo wheels for commuting or touring?Yes. We work with SP and Schmidt Son dynamo hubs and can spec the full wheel including dynamo-specific spoke lacing.
- Do you ship completed wheels, or is it collection only?Collection is preferred so we can hand the wheels over and answer any questions, but we can arrange UK shipping on request.

Our wheel build packages are labour-only. Components are quoted separately based on your choices. All builds include rim tape fitting, tension check and a free re-tension at 500km.
Aztec's Hand-Built Wheel £60 per wheel
One simple price for any hand-built wheel, regardless of pattern or rim material.
- Hand lacing in your chosen pattern (3-cross, 2-cross, radial)
- Hand tensioning with calibrated tension meter
- Final truing to within 0.2mm
- Stress-relief cycle before handover
- Rim tape fitted
- Free re-tension at 500km
Rebuilding an Existing Wheel?
If you are bringing in an old wheel for a rebuild, we will always assess your existing components before lacing. In most cases, we recommend fitting new spokes and a new rim alongside your existing hub. Spokes work-harden over time and a tired rim cannot be re-tensioned safely. Reusing a healthy hub on new spokes and a new rim gives you a wheel that rides like new for a fraction of the cost of a full custom build.
